Labour realise that protecting the environment means making chages across all policy areas. For example, reliable public transport is needed to to reduce car journeys. Environmental policy is a responsibility and will be a theme running through eveything we do.

We envision Lincolnshire as a county that takes robust action against the climate emergency, while working with residents to ensure this the necessary changes are all in everyone’s best interests.

“The Tories simply don’t see Lincolnshire’s Potential”

In 2019, Tory councillors voted down a Labour proposal that the council should become carbon neutral by 2030, as other councils have pledged. The Tories chose 2050 instead, which is simply too little, too late. That’s the difference between a Labour-run and a Conservative-run council. Labour have ambition that we can be a leading county on environmental issues, while the Tories simply don’t see Lincolnshire’s potential.

Banning Fracking

Currently, oil is being extracted in the Lincolnshire Wolds, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the Tories are giving the go ahead for more exploratory test sites in the Wolds. This would cause huge damage to our local environment, especially if fracking is used. Labour would ban fracking across Lincolnshire. We are committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions, so fracking is simply not needed, when we can use renewable forms of energy.

Improving Housing

We will provide top-up energy grants for low-income families, providing new combi boilers, ground source heat pumps, or solar heating. This is an ambitious project to help modernise homes across Lincolnshire, while reducing emissions and fuel poverty.

Community Development

We would create a scheme to bring important community assets under community ownership. Residents can propose assets in their community, and we will delvelop a series of long-term community assets. A good example of this is the brilliant STANS Pocket Park in Gainsborough – which was vetoed by Lib Dem and Conservative Councillors. The Lib Dems claim to be community focused, so why did they veto this?
