Labour wants Lincolnshire to be a county that is accessible to all.

We want to make it easier to use greener methods of travel, such as public transport, walking and cycling, which benefit our health and wellbeing. So, we will work to create more safe cycle lanes, separated from the road. We will also place emphasis on maintaining footpaths, as well as roads.

We plan create a county-wide scheme to replace street lights with LEDs and keep them switched on all night. This will reduce carbon emissions, while increasing safety for everyone at night.

Roads

However, we realise that in a rural county, Cars are also a necessity for personal travel. Therefore, our roads should be fit for purpose – something which can’t be claimed at the moment. Labour are committed to maintaining good quality roads, and to quickly and properly fixing potholes.

Rail

The county’s railways are clearly not up to standard. Labour councillors will press railway providers to provide earlier, later, and more direct services, especially in Boston and Skegness.

Buses

Buses are a vital part of rural life, but many communities have had their freedoms restricted because they have been taken out of local bus routes, thanks to cuts in services. Labour will campaign for devolved powers and better funding on bus services from Westminster, so local councils can reconnect communities that have been cut off and underserved. Nobody should be left behind.

We will look into whether it would be desirable to close roads outside schools at the beginning and end of the school day to increase safety for the children being picked up and dropped off.

Finally, we will launch a county-wide review to improve on-street parking for residents and visitors, because we understand that this is a major issue for residents in our towns.
