Labour believe that public health decisions should be taken as close as possible to the people they affect, and we hope the government will devolve powers and funding to allow these decisions to be made on a local level.

Hospital Services

Residents should be able to receive a range of hospital services without having to travel miles out of their way to receive them. We will use our influence with NHS organisations to bring about hospital services lost and Pilgrim Hospital, and enhance services for Skegness and the coast. We will continue to press for the restoration of services at Louth, Grantham, and John Coupland Hospital in Gainsborough.

Health Inequality

The Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted and deepened serious health inequalities. Labour councillors will tackle these inequalities and promote healthy lifestyles.

In the long-term, we will work to improve the educational outcomes of school children, reducing financial inequality, which is directly linked to health inequality.

More immediately, we will aim to help people to help themselves. for example, through smoking cessation programmes, encouraging healthy eating, and avoiding alcohol abuse.

“Labour councillors will tackle these health inequalities and promote healthy lifestyles”

We aim to improve the performance of the Stay Safe programme, which delivers preventative messages to young people in secondary schools on a range of topics including internet safety, alcohol awareness and anti-social behaviour.

Supporting Vulnerable Groups

We will support victims and survivors of all forms of domestic abuse by funding more intervention and support to protect those most at risk. This is especially important during the Covid-19 pandemic and the immediate future.

“Respite care can be a lifeline for carers. We will work with voluntary organisations to increase this”

We also recognise that unpaid carers need support, flexibility and understanding. We will ensure that Lincolnshire County Council provides this support as an employer to those within its workforce who are also carers. We will work with the third sector to enable carers to be informed of the help that is available to them. Respite care can be a lifeline for carers. We will work with voluntary organisations to increase provision of respite care both inside the home and through the provision of specialist services.
